Buy Sea Hawk Smart Solution Bottom Paint For Sale Online.
Sea Hawk Smart Solution Bottom Paint is a metal-free antifouling paint that is engineered to be the most effective environmentally friendly antifouling paint available. Smart Solution provides equivalent performance to traditional bottom paints but utilizes metal-free biocides that result in no bioaccumulation in the environment. The coating’s reaction to salt water creates a slick film that encapsulates the hull, providing enhanced speed and premium performance against growth.
How does Smart Solution work? Smart Solution utilizes a pharmaceutical-grade biocide called ECONEA (Tralopyril) to control hard growth. Within days of application, the coating creates a living surface much like the mucoprotein protective slime coat that covers the scales and skin of a fish. This slime coat acts as a defense against bacterial, parasitic, and fungal pathogens. It protects the surface by preventing microorganisms from attaching when the boat is not in motion.

How to Apply Sea Hawk Smart Solution Bottom Paint
Sea Hawk Smart Solution Bottom Paint is easily applied by brush, roller, or spray. When rolling, use only a high-quality short nap 3/8” roller cover. Apply using thin coats. For the smoothest possible finish, thin the paint by approximately 10% using water. Smart Solution has a tendency for settling to occur, especially if the paint has been on the shelf for several months. Thoroughly mix the paint before using. Before using, check the sides and bottom of the can to make sure all the pigment has been mixed in.

Surface Preparation and Application Systems
Previously Painted Surfaces
- Known Compatibility of existing antifoulant
- Power wash to remove any loose paint or other contaminants.
- Scuff sand with 80 grit sandpaper, remove all residue and let dry.
- Apply minimum 2 coats of Smart Solution. Allow 3-6 hours between coats and a minimum overnight dry.
- Unknown Compatibility of existing antifoulant
- Power wash to remove any loose paint or other contaminants.
- Scuff sand with 80 grit sandpaper, remove all residue and let dry.
- Apply 1 coat of 1277 Barrier coat primer or 1283 Island Primer
- Apply minimum of two coats of Smart Solution. Allow 3-6 hours between coats and a minimum overnight dry.
- Poor condition of existing antifoulant
- If previous coating is cracking, peeling, or flaking strip the antifoulant with stripper, sanding, or commercial blasting.
- Once stripped refer to the Bare Fiberglass Application Guidelines.
Bare Fiberglass
- To prepare the surface it is important to remove all contaminants first. Scrub the surface with detergent soap and a stiff brush.
- Using either S-80 Wax N’ Grease Killer or S-90 De-Wax Etch & Cleaner scrub the surface and rinse thoroughly.
- Sand to a uniform dull looking surface with 80-100 grit sandpaper and rewash with S-80 Wax and Grease Killer or S-90 De-Watch Etch & Cleaner
- Once cleaned and sanded, seal the surface with 2-3 coats of Tuff Stuff. Apply the second coat once the first has a tacky feel.
- Apply minimum of two coats of Smart Solution. Allow 3-6 hours between coats and a minimum
Sanding Method:
- Sand to a uniform dull looking surface with 80-100 grit sandpaper and rewash with S-80 Wax and Grease Killer or S-90 De-Watch Etch & Cleaner
- Apply minimum of two coats of Smart Solution. Allow 3-6 hours between coats and a minimum overnight dry.
Non-Sanding Method:
- Apply one thin coat of Sea Hawk 1266 no more than .3-.5 mils wet film thickness and allow to dry for 1 hour.
- Apply minimum of two coats of Smart Solution. Allow 3-6 hours between coats and a minimum overnight dry.
Bare Wood
- Clean the surface and ensure it is dry and free of contaminants.

Steel/Aluminum Hulls
- Sandblast to near white or white metal SSPC-SP-10 or equivalent. Remove residue by brush or compressed air.
Copper Based Antifoulant Application
- Apply two coats of S-76 Primer, the first coat applied within 1 hour of sanding. Allow the first coat to dry to a tacky feel then apply second coat.
- Seal the surface by using 3-4 coats of Tuff Stuff. Apply the first coat within 8 hours of applying the last coat of S-76.
- Apply minimum of two coats of Smart Solution, allow 3-6 hours between coats.
Copper-Free Antifouling Application for Aluminum Only
